National Virtual School Program Overview

National Virtual School Program Overview

The National Virtual School (NVS) program is a major initiative by the Ministry of Education and Youth, in collaboration with One Academy, to modernize education across 101 schools in Jamaica.

Below is an overview of the program, its key features, and how it will benefit schools and students.

Key Feature: Live-Streamed Content

One of the main highlights of the NVS is the ability for schools to access live-streamed classes in core subjects, directly from the One Academy Platform. This feature brings high-quality education to students in real time, making learning more engaging and interactive.

In addition to live-streamed lessons, schools will receive:

  • Smartboards

  • Audio-visual aids

  • Access to the One Academy Platform for virtual sessions

This setup ensures that students can experience interactive lessons and collaborative learning, both in the classroom and remotely.

Student Support and Features of One Academy

The NVS is designed to support students through multiple channels:

  • On-demand video tutorials: Students can access lessons at their own pace, which is particularly helpful for review and self-study.

  • Variety of Subjects: The platform accommodates a wide range of subjects, including essential areas like Math and English.

  • Interactive Learning: Students can engage in quizzes after each session, ensuring that their understanding is reinforced.

  • Reports and Monitoring: Parents and schools can track students’ progress via the platform, helping them monitor participation and performance.

Additionally, Skills Gap Tests are available to help identify students’ weaker areas and provide focused support.

Technical Assistance

Delivery and Installation

The NVS equipment, such as smartboards and audio-visual aids, will be delivered and installed by the One Academy technical team. Schools should expect installations to take approximately 2-3 hours, and key staff (such as Principals or Vice Principals) will need to be present to sign off on delivery.

 Maintenance and Upgrades

All maintenance and troubleshooting will be handled by One Academy, along with remote software upgrades to keep the equipment up to date and functioning properly.
